Australian football regional selection trial and state championship information.

10–12 Years

Catering	Bring own food and water as no canteen will be operating.	Bring own food and wter as no canteen will be operating.
Equipment	Students must provide and use their own mouthguard.	Students must provide and use their own mouthguard.
Shade	There is adequate shade at the venue. Teams should bring own shade if requred.	There is adequate shade available at the venue.
Competitors	Each district is invited to nominate one team of 20 players.	Each district is invited to nominate one team of 20 players.

Competition Rules	15 a side games.	As per AFL rules. 28 min games, 2min half time.
Referees/Umpires	Team offiicials will be rostered on for umpiring duties. Alternatively, each team is to provide an umpire for the day.	Year 9 & 10 students will be umpiring.
Selection procedures	As per MESSB Policy, one teacher from each district team may be nominated as a member of the Selection Panel. Selections will be final and no further play-offs will be held.
Competition rules	TBC	28 min games, 2min half time.
First aid	Sports Medicine personnel will be available for the duration of the trial.	Sports Medicine personnel will be available for the duration of the trial.
Risk management	A Curriculum Activity Risk Assessment (CARA) has been completed for this activity. Students must provide and use their own mouthguard. This is a CARA requirement.
Alternate date	In the event that this trial is postponed due to inclement weather, the trial will be held on the TBC. All other arrangements will remain the same. State championships	The QRSS 10-12yrs Australian Football State Championship will be held in Metropolitan North Region 3 - 6 June 2027.

13–14 Years (New age group 2026)

Trial date	Friday 5 March 2027	Thursday 4 March 2027
Time	8:30am-3pm	9am - 3pm
Venue	Coorparoo AFC	Mt Gravatt AFC
Officials meeting	9:15am	8:45am
Catering	Bring own food and water bottles as there will be no canteen operating.	Bring own food and water bottles as there will be no canteen operating.
Equipment	Students must provide and use their own mouthguard. Students need to provide their own playing equipment	Students must provide and use their own mouthguard. Students need to supply their own personal equipment.
Shade	There is minimal shade available at the venue.	There is adequate shade at the venue.
Competitors	Each district will be nominating a team of 23 players.	Each District can nominate a team of 18 players. This is a full contact sport and demonstrated competence at the Under 14 AFL level is expected.
Trial	Competition draw will be determined based on participants.	Warm-up and skills session, players will be divided into teams to participate in a round robin process. A possible/probables game may be held if required.
Referees/Umpires	Where possible, Association Umpires will be used for each game.	Where possible, AFLQ Umpires and senior students will be used for each game. However, team officials may be called upon to assist in umpiring.

15–17 Years (New age group in 2026)

Officials Meeting	Officials meeting to be held at 9:15am.	TBC
Catering	Bring own food and water bottles, as there will be no canteen operating.	Bring own food and water bottles as there will be no canteen operating.
Equipment	Students must provide and use their own mouthguard and personal playing equipment.	Students must provide and use their own mouthguard along with own football boots, shorts. A loan jersey for the trial will be provided for the day.
Shade	There is minimal shade available at the venue.	Shade available at the venue
Competitors	Each district is invited to nominate one team of 23 players.	Students must have prior experience and be approved as suitable to attend the trial by their school.
Trial	Will be determined based on participants.	This trial will be a Direct to Met East Trial process. Therefore, students wishing to attend the trial, will need to obtain the nomination form from the School Sports Co-Ordinator. The Regional convenor will then advise schools of the students who can attend the Met East trial. The format of the trial will be determined by the Regional convenor, depending on the number of nominations.
