MERSS Regional Sub-Committee and Management

The Metropolitan East Regional School Sport Regional Sub-Committee is responsible for the provision and implementation of the Metropolitan East School Sport program. Metropolitan East School Sport provides representative school sport opportunities for any enrolled student aged 10–19 years, from any affiliated school including state, independent, catholic and distance education in our region. Metropolitan East School Sport is the only region who selects teams to participate in all of the Queensland School Sport state championships across all of the 21 sports.

Metropolitan East School Sport supports the physical, intellectual and emotional well-being of young people, so they can be productive students and members of their communities. This is created through the provision of comprehensive school sport programs. The Metropolitan East School Sport Region Sub-Committee’s core purpose is to focus on these sporting programs for students and schools within the various education systems.

The objects for which the board is established are to:

  • support the Department of Education sports strategy
  • provide leadership for school sport
  • provide opportunities for maximum numbers of school students to participate in school sport competitions
  • provide competition at all levels so that each child may participate and develop maximum potential
  • provide sporting competition in a healthy, stimulating environment
  • increase the range of sports skills for children
  • encourage teachers and non-teachers by providing them with opportunities to become proficient in the presentation of school sporting activities
  • coordinate and oversee the efforts of the Metropolitan East Combined Council of Management
  • liaise with Department of Education through the Regional Director within the sports region
  • liaise with Queensland School Sport to ensure all policies and procedures are followed.
