The Department of Tourism, Infrastructure and Sport (DTIS) have updated grant amounts for the Emerging Athletes Pathway. This may be of particular interest to families who travel to state championship events. More information can be found here: https://www.qld.gov.au/recreation/sports/funding/emerging-athlete-pathways
Applications for events held on or after 1 April 2022 will be eligible for the following grant amounts:
- $500 for state or state school events
- $600 for national or national school events
- $800 for international events.
Currently applications can only be made and processed after participation at the event. Applications can continue to be accepted for events that have been held in the last 6 months.
The Emerging Athlete Pathways aims to foster the development of young athletes and support elite athlete pathways by providing financial assistance to help alleviate the costs associated with attending championship events. The subsidy provides financial assistance through 3 event tiers and supports attendance at specific state, national and international events. Officials (such as coaches, referees and scorers) officiating at eligible events can also apply for assistance if they meet the eligibility criteria.
Eligible events under the subsidy are the following:
- must be a Queensland State Championship, Queensland State School Championship, Australian Championship, Australian School Championship, or International Championship
- must provide a pathway for athletes (e.g. selection to compete at the nationals)
The following events are not eligible:
- local or regional championships, training squads and development camps, ongoing seasonal competitions, ongoing series, friendship or invitational events
- school events that do not lead to pathways for athletes or officials
- school events where there is an existing non-school event for that age group (the exception is where an event has been nominated by Queensland School Sport or School Sport Australia).
